Let us remember the purpose of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

It’s fun to give and get gifts as part of the celebration, but not at the expense of going into debt to do so.

We can  find ways to give the gift of ourselves to others by helping them in some specific way, meaningful to them.  Help someone in need, someone you don’t even know.

The most important part of celebrating Christmas, is by simply sharing a special time and a meal with friends and family.

Don’t get me wrong, I love giving gifts, when I can, even some small meaningful item.  For parents it is hard when they can’t afford to give gifts to their children.  I remember a time when me and my brother were young and our parents explained that we would only get one gift that Christmas because money was tight.  I don’t recall us being upset at all, we understood.

This is my early Christmas message to each and every one of you~

I wish for all of you throughout this special time…wisdom, peace, joy, caring, kindness, love for all, and safety.  I wish you many blessings this Christmas, and Hanukkah to my Jewish friends, and throughout the New Year.

I have been given permission to share this wonderful New Year’s Day post by my blogger friend Diane.  So much of her thoughts and feelings in this post could have come from my heart, had she not already done it 🙂  Thank you Diane.

Thank you God for this first day of 2014 and all the wonderful people in my life.

This past year was a very blessed one in so many ways, which included finally selling my house in Georgia, moving to Greenville SC in November, and already making some new friends.

I am looking forward to all the wonderful blessings, and awesome surprises you have in store for me God:-)  I begin with a  clean slate to write on, an empty vase to fill.  https://amarquette333.wordpress.com/2012/07/22/a-blank-slate-3/

Thank you God for this first day of 2013, for the rain we need, for all the wonderful people in my life, for being with me as I walk the path of transition and begin working on my goals for this year.

I am grateful for a clean slate to write on, an empty vase to fill.  https://amarquette333.wordpress.com/2012/07/22/a-blank-slate-3/

Last Day of 2012

Believe ~ In New Beginnings by Ann Marquette

Believe ~ In New Beginnings by Ann Marquette

It has been a good year.  I am grateful for all the many blessings, including good health, work with a good company (very close to the house, and great people), the rain to nourish the land, sunshine, a nice place to live, the ability to pay my bills, to eat, the times of sharing with family and friends.  The greatest blessings are the wonderful people in my life.

I am looking forward to a fresh new year.  A recent teaching about The One Thing we all have within us that we need to commit to inspired me to set a goal for my “One Thing” (actually two) to accomplish by the end of 2013 🙂

A new year…an even better attitude and more gratitude.

May you all be richly blessed in the New Year.

The New Year is a time to start with a clean slate, a new journal to write in, an empty vase to fill, making new memories, and finding new joys in our lives.

I am grateful for the blessings of 2011.  In January 2011 I was told my heart is in perfect condition, “the heart of a teenager” according to the cardiologist.  I continued to work on making improvements in my life and experienced aha moments of those I accomplished.

Over the past year I have told most everyone I know that I blog, I share many, if not most, of my posts on Twitter and Facebook.  On a rare occasion I send a special post out through email to family and friends so they get it directly and don’t miss seeing it on Twitter or Facebook.   Some read it, some don’t; most of the comments and are from other bloggers.

There have been times I’ve considered not sharing my writings at all because I think no one really cares, or they don’t like what I write, or don’t like it enough to hit the Like button or leave a comment.

But then, out of the blue someone will write back and say how much something I wrote meant to them, and sometimes that it inspired or encouraged them.  So, each time I write and post something online I am stepping out of my comfort zone, allowing myself to be vulnerable, and hoping that maybe one person will enjoy what I wrote, or be inspired or encouraged by it.

So this year I am going to continue my blog post and hope to improve as I go along.  I am thinking of a special theme/subject to focus on this year.  Will decide soon J

In the meantime, I got no sleep last night as I was away from home helping others as a volunteer.  So I am very tired and cannot focus any more tonight

It has been a pretty good year.  Nothing out of this world exciting, but making progress on the path I am walking.

I am looking forward to a New Year, a new beginning and filled with many blessings.  I especially look forward to the surprise blessings God has planned for me 🙂

I wish you all a very peaceful, healthy, joyful, loving, and blessed New Year of 2012.

It is nice to give and get gifts as part of the celebration, but in this time of a very tough economy, let’s not spend money we don’t have.  Unless you did already. (smile)  Explain to others, and the children that you just don’t have the money to spend.  I’ve been in that boat for a couple years now.  However, I have found that most people love just getting a meaningful card, with a personal note written inside…even the children.

Even my card giving/mailing has had to be reduced big time…mostly just to those who don’t have email.  A few I deliver by hand.

We can also find ways to give the gift of ourselves to others by helping them in some specific way, meaningful to them.  Help someone in need, someone you don’t even know.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to celebrate the birth of Jesus more like Thanksgiving, sharing a special meal with friends and family.   Let’s dream of a better way to celebrate this special occasion.

Don’t get me wrong, I love giving gifts…at least when I was able to.  It makes me sad at this time of year that I don’t have the money to buy gifts.  For parents it is even worse when they cannot afford to give gifts to the children.  I remember a time when me and my brother were young and our parents explained that we would only get one gift that Christmas because money was tight.  I don’t recall us being upset at all, we understood.

Asking For Forgiveness

It is a tough time for millions of Americans with the crummy economy and terrible housing market.  So many of us are looking for paying jobs and/or trying to sell a house for more than what we owe on them.

On top of that it is the holiday season…Christmas and the New Year.  Many people find this a sadder time because they are alone.  Many cannot buy gifts for their families, or friends…and can’t even afford to send cards.

I’m hearing more people feeling really bad, and when getting into deeper conversation with them it turns out they have been very angry at others who hurt them in some way.

I asked if they could find it in their hearts to forgive those people.  They feel so strongly about the wrong done to them, they say there is no way they can forgive.  My heart breaks for them.

There are many stories of people who have such anger and sometimes even hate for the offender, and they find themselves with troubled lives and health issues.  There are many stories of those who found it in their hearts to FORGIVE those who hurt them.  They may not forget what happened, but the FORGIVING and LETTING GO gave them peace within themselves.  They found their lives turned around for the better, including better health.

Who are you angry with and why?  Find the courage, with love in your heart to forgive and let go.

Wishing you peace and love within your heart and a very blessed and happy Christmas.

Paper 450x450

Blank Sheet

A Brand New Start, a Clean New Page to Write On

The newness of it all is so exciting.
A beautiful New Day, the first of a new month, the first of the New Year, the first of a new decade.

This new day will be a beautiful crystal bowl to fill with the sweets, nuts, and or little gems of life I find throughout the day.

Each new month will be a vase to fill with flowers, ferns, or twigs of various kinds and celebrating special moments or events.

This new decade is my Hope Chest which I will fill with my goals and dreams. As each comes to pass I will take out and enjoy it, and maybe add a new one to the chest.

I look forward to the path I will walk, the people I will meet along the way, some who will become part of this new chapter in my life, and the inevitable wonderful surprises which will bless my life in ways I could not imagine.

I am committed to continue what I started last January 1st to work on my personal transformation and writing more. I have made progress, but not where I want to be yet. Congratulations to me for making the progress I did in 2010. Welcome 2011 

The year began with a promise to myself…make this year the beginning of my transformation, change bad habits to good habits, get more disciplined and focused, and write more.

It is not easy to change a lifetime of habits. Many times during the year I was frustrated with myself for the changes not happening fast enough. Then reminded myself, like being overweight…getting that way does not happen overnight and it takes time to it; the same goes for making changes in other areas of our lives.

The good news is that I have gradually made a variety of small changes. I celebrate those accomplishments. The New Year will find me continuing on the path of transforming myself…and writing more.

A few months ago I started this blog site. I figured it would make me more accountable to my writing life, and it does. I hope to learn more about the technicalities of this blog site and make mine better. And I hope blogging will help me to become a better writer.

There have been some ups and downs this year, but mostly ups. I continue to be grateful for my blessings…especially the people in my life. All in all, it was a good 2010.
