Love~Heart Smiles

By Ann Marquette

I am not big on the commercialization or hype about Valentine’s day.

I believe we all should show love everyday to everyone.

There are various kinds/levels of love.

Everyone needs to know they are loved. Even little kindnesses, like giving someone a smile can make their day.

I hope your day is very special, and mostly I wish for you something special to make your heart smile.

You sit in this quiet place
Playing quiet beautiful music
A peace comes over you

You feel a joy you never knew
You look up to see her
There a short distance away

Her smile comes from deep within
She walks very slowly
She is coming to you

You are still playing
Yet you have stopped breathing
You feel you are in a dream

She is beside you now
She holds out her hand to you
You take her hand and rise

The music goes on in your souls
You hold each other
Softly, slowly you glide around the floor

The dance begins
To the quiet song within your hearts

A couple months ago I planted three small versions of Gardenia plants.  I knew they had to get settled before any blossoms would show up.  I watered them as they should be, especially when getting them started.  I have been waiting and watching them…kept waiting for a sign of the beautiful and fragrant white blossoms to show up.

Finally the first perfect white blossom …

Ok, I must stop doing everything else including trying to keep up with my blogger friends’ posts and write my own post.

“Into the Fire: The Sun Celebrates Personal Writing

To write about ourselves in a way that touches others and reminds them of our fundamental connectedness we must be willing to take a leap — with all our passion, fear, and longing — into the fire.”

What a great experience…meeting wonderful people, enjoying great food, and learning more about writing and the writing life.

The Front Porch by Ann Marquette

June 1st ~ about 4:45 pm I finally arrived at the Rowe Camp & Conference Center and parked in the gravel parking area by the Farmhouse where I had a bed in a dorm room upstairs.  The dorms had bunk beds, and thankfully I got there in time to get one of the lower bunks.  I love the entrance to the Farmhouse with a rocking chair front porch with rockers and a couple of benches.  Once in the front door there is a little foyer with two rocking chairs in front of a mural painted wall.

I went to the desk to register and as I looked to the right into the large room, like a big living room with a piano and a great fireplace.  Some of the attendees were already gathered with coffee in hand and chatting.  Once I dumped my bags on my bed I went down to join the others.

Of course I had to get a cup of coffee first.  As many of us milled around in the living room; a few out on the back deck and one or two walking around the property, there was a lot of networking and interesting conversation going on.  Then the hors d’oevres came out.  Most of us took a little plate and made our choices, which we enjoyed while we continued to chat.

Between 7 and 7:30 PM we were called into the dining room where we stood in a circle around the edges of the room.  The facilitator introduced herself and explained the process for the weekend, house rules, and where we would meet up after dinner.  We took our seats, wherever we wanted.  Then the chef and a couple of his helpers came out with the bowls and plates of food on trolleys.  The chef introduced himself and explained what was for dinner and finished with a cheerful “enjoy.”  This was done before each meal over the weekend.  Although they don’t serve any meat, poultry, or fish it didn’t matter.  The food was amazing.  It was all healthy and delicious.  Each meal included either homemade bread or muffins; and homemade desserts.

After enjoying the delicious food and conversations with those at our tables it was off to the Rug Room in another building, a short walk up the road.  This was the official opening session with a welcome message and orientation, contributors’ notes, and author reading.

Daisies And Drops

Yes, it is the first day of April 2012 🙂

What a joyous way to begin April, a beautiful month of the year, this year beginning with Holy Week ~ Palm Sunday.  A week of sadness for Jesus’ death on the cross to pay for our sins, then His rising from death on Easter Sunday…joy, joy, joy.

Per my previous post, for me April is the month, the time of year when I love to begin anew…something.  What will it be this year?

One year ago tomorrow, April 2nd, I put my house FOR SALE BY OWNER sign out front.  There have been some lookers, a few who really liked it, but no offers yet.  Why should they, when they can spend the extra time, effort, frustration of buying a foreclosure or short sale for almost nothing!  My soul knows when the time is right it will sell.  Earthly reality is that our economy is still bad and the housing market still crappy.  So, I wonder if I should take the sign down and wait for, who knows how long, for the housing prices to return to more appropriate values so traditional sales will actually sell for more than what is owed to the mortgage company!  Or should I just leave the sign up, and pray for a miracle!!  After all, it is just the beginning of April.  What surprise blessings are in store this month?

A view inside some tulips, showing the stamens...

Yes I am grateful and joyful for this beautiful day, and the connections with my blogger friends.  And I do love tulips 🙂

Thursday night I had a great phone conversation with one of them; and we have so much in common. We spent a wonderful hour on the phone. Thanks Barb 🙂

And I thank all my blogger friends who are so inspirational, encouraging, supportive, wise, and some times funny (or always funny like Mark) 🙂

I wish you all a fabulous weekend filled with joy and heart smiles.

White Tulip

This was the suggested topic for March 17th, but I was out-of-town and not back until late on 19th. So today I decided to use this for my post.

“Close your eyes. Count to ten. Then imagine a beautiful ancient castle (tastefully remodeled to include central heating, ……….laptops everywhere). Now walk down the endless main hall, a hall filled with amazing rooms of wonder. Go into the 2nd room on the right. What’s inside? “

There are two beautifully carved wooden doors which open to my own special sanctuary. The carvings in the doors and together depict a scene from the story of Little One during a part of her journey.

As I walk through and into the room it is quiet peacefulness. Although a good size, the room looks and feels very cozy. In the center of the hardwood floor is a magnificent area rug. It was specially made by a tapestry artist and shows another scene from Little One’s story.

The wall on the left is floor to ceiling shelves lined with hundreds of books and some special items are on display. The opposite wall is visually divided in three sections with the center showing two or three of my favorite paintings. On the right are some of scenic photos I have taken over the years. The area to the left near the window wall has many pictures of people in my life.

Extra special is the outside wall which is all windows from ceiling to three feet from the floor where a long window seat was built and is covered with thick comfortable cushions.
It is a great place to sit and stare out at the magnificent view. There is a small section of the window with an etched work of art showing the vision of the dream Little One had in the first story of her journey.

There is a lovely desk angled at the right of the window so I can sit there at times and write with the light shining in over my left shoulder. The rest of the room has comfortable chairs and small sofa about, each with a small table next to them.  And there would be one special table in the middle of the room with a vase filled with tulips, would always include some white tulips.

Although this is my personal sanctuary I sometimes invite a friend or two to join me for a visit. And there are occasions when some children will come in for storytelling. All enjoy the room and the view outside. It is a very comfortable and peaceful space.

What would your room look like?

Autumn has always been my favorite season. One Autumn a few years ago was extra special.

The tree colors in the city where I lived were more glorious than I had seen them before.

More wonderful, special people had come into my life…even if briefly. My heart used to hurt so much, when people who came into my life, and I would have liked to keep them there, but they would go out again; not for any bad reason, just life.

As I think about these special souls who come in and out of my life, I realize something magical about some of them. They have had unstable or life-threatening sad beginnings to their lives. Yet they and God knew they needed to be in this world of ours. They are living proof of miracles, and strength, goodness and love. These souls create moments of magic in other people’s lives…they have in mine. I think of them as elusive Unicorns who pass through my life reminding me that I have a loving heart. And even though my heart breaks when they leave, I know another will come along to fill that empty space even for a little while.

Maybe it was that Autumn when I learned to be at peace with letting people come in and out of my life as they needed or wanted. This time of year seems to be a beautiful time for Letting Go, to allow myself to become A Blank Slate in order to allow for healing and new beginnings.
